Our team had the pleasure of meeting in person with the partners of the VELES Excellence Hub Project. The project's consortium gathered in Valencia, Spain, for its latest Plenary Meeting, hosted by Inneürope at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The partners reviewed progress across all work packages, exchanged knowledge, and planned the next steps as the project enters its final year.
Representing the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster (HDHC), Project Manager Eva Salmatani presented the latest developments of the Greek Cancer Pilot, highlighting the progress achieved in stakeholder engagement, market validation activities, and the key lessons learned from HDHC's recent scientific publication, Building a National Health Data Ecosystem in Greece: Strategic Pathways and Readiness for the EHDS. The presentation demonstrated how the Greek pilot is contributing to the broader vision of creating interoperable and sustainable Regional Smart Health Data Spaces across Europe.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for partners to discuss the ongoing development of the Regional Smart Health Data Space, the progress of pilot activities across the participating ecosystems, innovation uptake, sustainability planning, exploitation strategies, and the future implementation of smart health solutions.
The second day featured presentations from project partners on a range of topics, including precision medicine, AI-driven healthcare, GDPR compliance, and health data ecosystems. Highlights included research on personalised drug repurposing for triple-negative breast cancer, data compliance in the Romanian pilot, and the role of artificial intelligence in Alzheimer's research. In addition, two guest presentations hosted by UPV and valgrAI, focusing on Natural Computing for Biomedicine and Assistive Intelligence and Interaction Technologies in Healthcare, showcasing emerging technologies that are shaping the future of digital health.
As VELES enters its final phase, HDHC is looking forward to the successful implementation of the Greek pilot and contributing to the development of sustainable health data ecosystems that align with the goals of the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
